About the Event
Atlantic staff writer Clint Smith looks at the legacy of slavery in America through his visits to historical monuments and landmarks. Throughout the author’s travels, from Monticello to New Orleans and Manhattan, he reflects on how we talk and also avoids discussing slavery.
Clint Smith is the author of the poetry collection Counting Descent and the forthcoming Above Ground. His debut nonfiction title, How the Word is Passed, was the recipient of several awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction. He is a staff writer at the Atlantic.
